Peter Dahmen - Brings Paper To Life

I first stumbled across this designer whilst researching self promoting packages, his pop up element transforms the way in which we see 3D paper sculptures. I particularly like his complex designs which represent architectural and abstract objects, as they look amazingly difficult to do yet have a basic concept. This video below shows his pop up designs being incorporated into a exhibition about the life of an inventor 'Nikola Tesla'.

On his website it shows all of his commissioned work which is mainly situated in Germany, working for such big company's as: FSV Mainz 05 and BMW/Mini. His pop up designs seem to stand out due to there complex geometric shapes which has a big impact on the viewer, as it shifts the view point to all areas of the sculpture.

Most of his pop up work is using white card which is clean cut and ables the viewer to see every detail that has gone into creating these geometric three dimensional sculptures. I would like to use some of his methods throughout my work as I particularly like the 3D effect which draws the viewers eyes. As well it gets the audience to interact more with the sculpture by turning or puling parts.

Check out his Facebook page for more information on his pop up sculptures & Illustrations -
